Why do you play Football with 11 players? A little history…

Why do we like football? Let’s see, raise your hand who has never been excited in a game! Who has come to mind that moment when you shed a tear after seeing your team score that “great goal”?

Maybe some of you pass football, okay. But the reality is that football is one of the most popular topics.

Football has great power, and that for good (or bad) generates feelings. While some love football and are super fans, others hate it with all their might. But if there is something I am sure of, it is that football does not leave anyone indifferent!

Today, all football fans are in luck. We are going to talk about the psychological benefits of being a supporter, fan, or hobby of a football team.

Why do we like football? Benefits it brings us

Whenever we talk about the benefits of football, we talk about the benefits on a physical level but do you know the psychological benefits that football brings us just by watching it?

We like football because we understand it as synonymous with joy

Many people refer to football as a state of mind, something more than a sport, and this is demonstrated by the hobbies accompanying their team, even if the result is not always as expected. This occurs from the “football star teams” to the lowest-ranked teams. Therefore, one of the psychological benefits of being a football fan is the association we make with moments of joy.

We like football because it is capable of bringing people together

What will this sport have that moves the masses and unites us all?

When someone becomes a member of a team, they are represented with their colors and become part of a group where the objectives and ideals are the same for all its members.

We like football because it acts as our escape valve

Bring joy to all those people who are going through difficult times. It also helps to disconnect from work life and can function as a “safety valve”.

Who has not taken advantage of the football moments as an excuse to go out with friends out there?

We like football because it is a machine to generate feelings

Euphoria, joy, sadness, rage, despair, and nervousness are some of the sensations we experience when watching our football team’s game. That feeling of maximum joy when our team wins as if we ourselves had played the game and that desire to cry and contain anger that we sometimes feel when we see that our team is losing.

Are you one of those who shout at the television as if there is no tomorrow? Or are you one of those who bite your nails? Can you still be in the 90 minutes that the game lasts?

Football, football everywhere

Nowadays, it is practically impossible to think of anywhere that does not talk about football. Although it can be redundant for people who do not like football, it is true that it helps to empathize, start a conversation, or connect with a stranger.

We like football because it has a therapeutic nature

Football invites people to dream of something, which helps them escape a little and generates new illusions. People’s feelings come into play when they see the players on their teams as gods and cheer them on with all their might to achieve what is seen as a heroic feat.
